Varsity Baseball

More than 100 years ago, baseball was first played at Loomis Chaffee under the direction of Chick Sellers, for whom the field is now named. The storied spirit of Chick Sellers and the Founders of the school lives on in the tradition of baseball on the diamond. In a program deeply committed to playing the beautiful game of baseball with passion, we emphasize positive culture and work on the development of our players at every level. Baseball players at Loomis are students of the game and work to understand the “why” of every detail of the game. Our coaches are first and foremost teachers, and our players learn how to compete fearlessly while playing the game with joy and intensity.

Loomis plays in the highly competitive Founders League, playing in 20 games each season with hopes of qualifying for the post-season Founders League Championship Tournament.

Each season the team travels to Florida for our spring training trip, where we play varsity and JV exhibition games, hit the beach for workouts, and check out a Major League spring training game along with other program-building activities.

The program boasts many alumni who play collegiately, at the Division I and Division III levels, as well as seven alumni drafted to Major League Baseball since 1986.
