What drew you to Loomis?
My family and I found Loomis Chaffee attractive because of its high caliber academics and sports, as well as commitment to diversity.
Why is it important to continue to study language after leaving Loomis?
In today’s world, knowledge of foreign language and understanding of foreign cultures helps to build the professional understanding needed to create and maintain lasting connections to those around us. We have been fortunate to have many students leave Loomis and find that their language foundation andopens many doors for careers as well as opportunities.
Who is someone you admire and why?
Although it may sound cliché, Nelson Mandela has forever changed my world view. Through him, I learned the value of peace and love. The following year after his release in 1990, I came to the United States to study. Although I had been judged because I was Latina, I was able to prove that actions, character and honor are interwoven. I also keep close to my heart the idea that one must allow others the opportunity to grow since everyone’s experiences are different but we are all a part of the human race regardless of where we come from, what language we speak, what color our skin is, or the cultural traditions we practice.
What advice would you give to a student interested in Spanish?
I’d say go for it and give it a try! By studying a language, your world will be magnified, as it will open up the doorway to many experiences in the future.
