For the Loomis Chaffee girls varsity golf team, the spring season couldn’t be off to a better start. The team currently has a 6-0 record of with wins over Westminster (twice), Hotchkiss, Ethel Walker, Williston, and most recently Greenwich Academy.

The Loomis Chaffee girls varsity tennis team has begun its spring campaign with three straight wins, the result of 21 matches in the win column and only four in the loss column.
The boys varsity golf team prevailed over Choate Rosemary Hall and Pomfret on Wednesday, April 10, at Wallingford Country Club, Choate’s notoriously difficult home course.
On Saturday, April 7, the Loomis Chaffee girls water polo team headed up to New Hampshire to take on a great team in Phillips Exeter. It is never easy making a long trip and then playing a good team in their home pool, but the Loomis girls water polo team never backs down from a challenge. The Pelicans got the win over Exeter, winning by a score of 12-9.
The Loomis Chaffee boys varsity lacrosse team defeated Salisbury 10-8 on the road on March 30, the first time the Pelican team has beaten Salisbury since 2007.
The Loomis Chaffee Athletics Department hosted its annual Winter Varsity Awards on the evening of Sunday, March 24.
In honor of Women’s History Month, an exhibit recently installed in the Scanlan Campus Center celebrates girls athletics at Loomis Chaffee through the years. The seven alumnae featured in the installation are just a few of many who have led the way for future Pelicans to, as the exhibit says, “excel as students, athletes, and leaders, on the Island and beyond.” The exhibit was created by the Athletics Department.
Senior Kayla Zeng won the 200 free and the 500 free to help lead the Pelican girls team to a fourth-place finish in the New England Prep School Swimming and Diving Division I championships on Sunday, March 3, at Phillips Andover.
It’s three in a row for the Loomis Chaffee girls basketball team. The team won the New England Prep School Class A Championship for the third consecutive year on March 3 with a 47-39 victory over Kent. Head coach Adrian Stewart ’90 was named NEPSAC Class A Coach of the Year.
Matthew Spindler-Virgin ’99 has been appointed as the new boys varsity golf coach at Loomis Chaffee, beginning with this spring’s season.
The stage is set for the winter 2024 post-season with five Loomis Chaffee teams competing in championship events.
The girls swimming and diving team won its third consecutive Founders League championship on Saturday, February 24, notching its 32nd league title in program history. On the boys side, the Loomis Chaffee team earned runner-up honors with an impressive set of performances.
The girls varsity basketball team finished the regular season on Saturday, February 24, with a record of 20-5, the best regular season record in their team's history.
That sound you heard in Erickson Gymnasium on February 20 — other than the former III players talking smack — was a friendly game of basketball, a tradition that started about 20 years ago. And let’s rephrase that: a friendly yet competitive game. Former III players still at Loomis but not on the team vs. current III players.
Seven Loomis Chaffee athletes competed in the USA Track and Field New England Championship on Sunday, February 18, at Harvard University.
