Baseball

More than 100 years ago, baseball was first played at Loomis under the direction of Chick Sellers, who the field is now named after. The storied spirit of Chick Sellers and the founders of the school lives on in the tradition of baseball on the diamond. In a program deeply committed to playing the beautiful game of baseball with passion, we emphasize positive culture and work on the development of our players at every level. Baseball players at Loomis are students of the game and work to understand the “why” of every detail of the game. Our coaches are first and foremost teachers, and our players learn how to compete fearlessly while playing the game with joy and intensity.

Loomis plays in the highly competitive Founders League, playing in 20 games each season with hopes of qualifying for the post season Founders League championship tournament. Non-conference opponents include teams like Deerfield Academy, Suffield Academy, and others in New England.

In the past five years Loomis has won the league three times with a combined 67-17 record in those seasons. 2021 was the twelfth consecutive winning season for the program. In addition, our JV team put together a strong season, continuing a string of winning seasons that began back in 1990.

Each season the team travels to Florida for our annual spring training trip where we will play varsity and JV exhibition games, hit the beach for workouts and check out a Major League spring training game along with other program building activities.

College baseball has been in the future of a large number of Loomis players in the rich history of the program. In Coach McKillop’s four graduating classes he has coached 22 college ballplayers across all levels of play including a Major League Draft pick. The program also boasts seven alumni drafted to Major League Baseball since 1986.
