Alexa Becker and friends at Springfest

“I found my people here.”

Alexa Becker

Like so many students at Loomis Chaffee, Alexa Becker’s diverse interests paved the way for her to meet a lot of different people on the Island. Bringing her passion for robotics to Loomis from middle school, she joined the school’s HAX robotics team in her freshman year and never looked back. She describes the team as a “wacky and chaotic” family.

Alexa’s circle of friends widened as her involvement on campus expanded. She was an integral member of the technical theater crew helping with everything from set construction to lights and sound. Long days and late nights in the weeks before each production definitely bonded the crew together. Additional friendships developed through her participation in Spectrum (LC's gay/straight alliance), in the Young Democrats, in the Longman Leadership Institute, and in her classes, especially Arabic, where the same cohort of students traversed the curriculum together from Arabic I to Arabic IV.

“I found my people here,” shares Alexa. The community of friends she formed over the years helped her create her own unique experience at Loomis and become the person she is today.

Behind the Scenes

In April 2022, Loomis Chaffee opened the Nichols Center for Theater and Dance. As part of the new facility, the school’s renovated Norris Ely Orchard (NEO) Theater includes state-of-the-art technology that allows our faculty and visiting experts to teach students like Alexa various aspects of technical theater. The first performance in the new space was Spamalot.

Belonging at Loomis Chaffee

Students and alumni consistently name “community” as one of Loomis Chaffee’s greatest strengths. The diversity of backgrounds, interests, and talents of our students and faculty; the respect we have for one another’ experiences and perspectives; and our commitment to inclusion enabled Alexa to develop a strong sense of belonging at LC.
