Boys Cross Country Wins Canterbury Invitational

The boys cross country team won the Canterbury Invitational for the fourth year in a row on Saturday, September 21.

With the weather a bit warmer than normal for late September, the Pelican harriers prepared for a tough race. Canterbury’s course features difficult hills and some tricky turns that proved challenging in the heat.

Junior captains Alejandro Rincon and Jake Lotreck took the challenges in stride, though, as they finished first and second in the race, while senior captain Danny Cui and sophomore Nick Hope crossed the finish line in ninth and 10th and junior Eric Zhang rounded up the scoring for the Pelicans when he finished 26th. With a total score of 48, Loomis beat second-place Brunswick by an impressive 39 points.

Even more impressive was the fact that the top three Pelican runners moved up 45 places in total from their performances last year. Rincon moved from eighth to first, Lotreck went from 16th to second, and Cui went from 33rd to ninth.

The team looks to build off of these impressive performances at the Northfield Mount Hermon Open on Saturday, September 28. Last year at the NMH Open the team placed fourth against some of the best runners in New England.
