The girls varsity soccer team won its first game of the season on Wednesday, September 25. defeating Choate 2-1 on Barton Field
Determined to defend their home turf, the Pelicans were firing on all cylinders in the first half, dominating possession and jumping out to a two-goal lead. Junior Selia Coady scored her first goal as a Pelican on a beautiful cross from sophomore Grace Doherty. It was Doherty’s first assist as a Pelican.
Loomis Chaffee scored a second goal before the end of the half thanks to the efforts of junior Paige Larose and senior Jessica Hinton. Hinton placed an exceptional ball into the box off of a free kick, and Larose went up for a contested header, causing a Choate defender to head the ball into Choate’s own goal.
The Pelicans continued to dominate possession in the second half but struggled to put it all together and finish in front of the goal. Choate managed to find the back of the net with 15 minutes left in the game, but the Pelican defense was able to regroup and stifled Choate for the rest of the game.
