The girls volleyball team topped previously unbeaten Phillips Andover Academy 3-0 on Saturday, September 25, to remain undefeated.
The Pelicans took a 6-0 lead to start the match, behind strong serving by senior Sophia Testa and big kills from senior Masha Sidorova.
The Pelicans extended their lead to 15-4 with contributions from senior Willa Hock, junior Syd Hanley and senior Lexie Hydrick. The lead dwindled to 18-10 after a few unforced errors midway through the set, but the Pelicans forged ahead to take the first set 25-16.
In set two, the Pelicans jumped out to an 11-3 lead thanks to excellent hitting and passing from the entire roster. Andover found some serving momentum and went on a strong run to narrow the lead to 18-13, but Pelican junior Kori Meissner served out the set, going on a six-point run and finishing the set 25-13.
Unforced errors plagued the Pelicans in the third set, and Andover took advantage to build a 16-13 lead. Loomis Chaffee battled back to tie the set at 18, and then Hydrick served two straight aces to build a narrow lead. From there, Hanley had a big kill on the final point of the game to seal the Pelicans’ victory.
Up next, the Pelicans take on Deerfield Academy on Wednesday, September 29, at 3:30 p.m. in Olcott Gym.
