Nearly 50 students took part in a gingerbread house-building event on November 30 organized by the student-led Pelican Service Organization (PSO) in support of Habitat for Humanity.
On a wintry Friday night, Pelicans turned out in force in the Scanlan Campus Center to create some imaginative house designs with gingerbread cookies, frosting, and candy provided by the PSO. The students enjoyed seasonal treats and listened to holiday music favorites while they worked in teams on their creations to enter in a house design contest.
PSO leaders juniors Margarita Demkina and Michelle Park were pleased with the turnout and the fun atmosphere. The four winning teams will each receive a prize that has yet to be determined, and, the winning gingerbread houses were donated to the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity for a holiday fundraising raffle. Several that did not win were donated to local community organizations that serve senior citizens. Connect to the Habitat for Humanity website for more information about the holiday raffle.
