Abby Congdon Named Class A Basketball Player of the Year

Senior Abby Congdon has been named the New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) Class A Girls Basketball Player of the Year, capping off an extraordinary career at Loomis Chaffee.

A four-year starter and two-year captain, Abby helped to lead the Pelicans to four consecutive NEPSAC Class A Championships. This year, she added NEPSAC Tournament MVP honors to her resume, along with her third selection to the All-NEPSAC, All-Founders League, and  All-Star teams. She was also the runner-up for NEPSAC Class A Defensive Player of the Year. Abby has committed to Tufts University for next year.

Head coach Adrian Stewart ’90, who named Abby the team’s Co-MVP, praised her impact on both ends of the court: “She can affect a game in so many different ways. For the second straight year, she led our team in deflections, steals, and assists. She’s an absolute menace on the defensive end and has ice water in her veins on offense. Abby is the kind of athlete everyone loves to play with but hates playing against — tough, competitive, and with an incredible motor. She’s widely respected and feared throughout NEPSAC girls basketball. This award is well-earned and well-deserved.”

This season, Abby averaged 10.1 points per game, tallied 108 assists with a 1.61 assist-to-turnover ratio, and recorded 95 deflections and 77 steals. Her remarkable on-court efficiency is highlighted by a +432 plus-minus rating — an indicator of her all-around impact.

Her legacy at Loomis is one of leadership, toughness, and consistency. As she prepares to take her game to the next level at Tufts, she leaves behind a standard of excellence that will inspire future generations of Loomis Chaffee athletes.

Joining Abby on the All-NEPSAC list are seniors Alicia Mitchell and Liv Westfort. Seniors Catherine Chadwell and Aniyah Neal received Honorable Mention recognition.
