Boys Basketball Defeats Andover
The boys varsity basketball team earned a 63-57 victory over Andover in the Olcott Center on Friday, January 31, in a game marked by momentum swings, clutch performances, and the Pelicans’ disciplined resistance to a late push from their opponents.
Both teams came out strong in the opening minutes, trading baskets in a fast-paced first half. Loomis Chaffee gained an early advantage thanks to defensive stops from senior Jlin Brown and relentless offensive rebounding by junior Nick Sangermano, allowing the Pelicans to build an eight-point lead midway through the half. However, Andover responded, chipping away at the deficit to trail by just one point at halftime.
In the second half, Loomis assert its dominance on the boards, outrebounding Andover 44-27. This physical presence helped the Pelicans extend their lead to as many as 14 points. However, a series of turnovers late in the game allowed Andover to close the gap, bringing the score within three points with only a short amount of time remaining.
Despite the pressure, the Pelicans remained poised. Key free throws in the final moments sealed the win, with Loomis emerging victorious at 63-57. Sophomore Grey Pierce led the team with a 24-point, 10-rebound performance. Senior Charlie O'Sullivan contributed 18 points and seven rebounds, while senior Ben Price added 11 points and five rebounds to round out the offensive effort.
Next up, the Pelicans head to Greenwich to play Brunswick School on Wednesday, February 5, at 3:30 p.m.
