Boys Lacrosse Moves to 3–0

The Loomis Chaffee boys lacrosse team is off to a perfect start, improving to 3–0 with a trio of wins over spring break and in the home opener.

The Pelicans opened the stretch with an 8–7 win over Salesianum in Wilmington, Del., on March 23. In a back-and-forth contest, Loomis relied on timely scoring and late-game composure. Sophomore Oj Ika led the way with three goals, including the game-winner with under two minutes remaining. Senior C.J. Landry, senior Jayden Rodriguez, and junior Brendan Mulderig each contributed offensively, while junior goalkeeper Rhett King made six saves in his first start. Defensively, senior Turner Tarrasch, senior Saki Nicholas, senior Mike Brennan, and junior Hayes Griffin anchored a unit that held strong in key moments.

Loomis followed that effort with a 17–13 road win over Salisbury on March 28, jumping out to an early 4–0 lead and never looking back. Faceoff dominance from senior Hayden Goozh and junior Julien Watts helped set the tone while balanced scoring powered the offense. Ika again recorded a hat trick, with goals also coming from senior Landry, Mulderig, junior Noah Rodgers, sophomore Colton Strazzini, and sophomore Jacob Beskin. A highlight moment came when King went coast to coast for a goal, part of a four-goal run that broke the game open. The Pelicans’ defense, led by Nicholas, Tarrasch, junior Patrick Bishai, and junior Will Ruberton, limited Salisbury’s push despite a late rally.

At home on Pratt Field on Wednesday, April 1, Loomis continued its strong play with a 17–8 win over Trinity-Pawling. After trailing 6–5 at halftime, the Pelicans erupted for nine unanswered goals spanning the third and fourth quarters to take control. Ika once again paced the offense with multiple goals, while Rodriguez, Rodgers, and Strazzini added to the scoring. First goals in a Loomis uniform from freshman Quinton Haverstock, senior Luke Koman, and sophomore Kellen Shields highlighted the team’s depth. King added five saves in net as the Pelicans pulled away.

The Pelicans return to action on Saturday, April 4, with a road matchup against Brunswick School at 4:15 p.m.
