Boys Varsity Soccer Rolls Past Westminster
The boys varsity soccer team added another win to its season on Wednesday, October 24, with a solid 5-0 victory over Westminster, moving its record to 11-1 with five regular-season games remaining.
The match marked the start of a series of consecutive Founders League games, and the win positioned the Pelicans well as they look to close out the season on a high note.
Senior Jude Gussen set the tone early, scoring in the opening minute. In the seventh minute, junior Josai Vereen won a penalty, though the Westminster keeper saved his shot. Two minutes later, Vereen found sophomore Jaden Behm near the edge of the 18-yard box. Behm then cut back and placed his shot into the bottom right corner for Loomis’ second goal. Shortly after, in the 12th minute, junior Josiah Blake capitalized on a saved Vereen attempt, putting the ball in the net to make the score 3-0.
In the second half, senior Gabe Smith, returning from injury, added two goals to the scoreboard. He first scored in the 61st minute, finishing a through ball from junior Nathaniel Gritzmacher, and then scored again in the 82nd minute, connecting with a cross from junior Boston Childers.
Loomis will travel to Hotchkiss on Saturday, October 26, as the Pelicans aim to build on this win in their remaining Founders League games.
