Boys Track and Field Dominates at First Meet

Boys track and field opened its season with a strong performance on Wednesday, April 16, winning a quad meet against Avon Old Farms, Kingswood Oxford, and Westminster with 133 points. 

Junior Alex Fisher won the 800 meters, 1500 meters, and 3000 meters while senior Jack Muhlhauser placed second in all three. Sophomore Amani Odenigbo was third in the 1500 and 3000, and senior Erik Lamphere was third in the 800. Junior Chidi Moemeka won both hurdle events, with senior Zeke Conley taking second in the 110-meter high hurdles. Freshmen Amadu Barrie and Trae Ford scored in the 110 hurdles from the second heat — an uncommon achievement. 

In the sprints, sophomore Daniel Onyemanokor won the 200 meters from the second heat, and Conley placed second overall. Senior George Martin won the 400 meters and anchored the winning 4x400-meter relay team (Moemeka, juniors Jack Daly and Lucas Bain, Martin). Junior George Vonintiru took third in the 100 meters. Other scorers included junior Joseph Hurd (1500), senior Talon Hughes (400), junior Amir Knighton (100), senior Ciaran Bruce and junior Alex Shymkiv (300-meter hurdles), and freshman Jackson Goings (3000). 

In the field events, sophomore Jeremiah Robinson (triple jump), sophomore Jackson Strand (javelin), and  junior Zane Habig (pole vault) each won their events. Other scorers in the field events included freshman Ben Liu and junior Cruz Trujillo in discus, Habig and sophomore Gregor MacLean in javelin, junior Abdoulaye Sow and senior Jackson Torres in shot put, Daly in high jump, Ford in triple jump, and sophomore Jude Manger, senior Bill Zhou, and freshman Michael Flynn in pole vault.The team heads to Taft on Saturday, April 19, for a dual meet.
