JV Pelicans Sweep Avon Old Farms at Home

The JV boys squash team put together a strong home performance against Avon Old Farms on Wednesday, January 14, earning an 11–0 sweep across the ladder, including exhibition matches.

Several matches were competitive early, but Loomis stayed composed throughout the lineup and closed out each contest efficiently.

Freshman Ben Kim, playing at the No. 1 spot for the first time this season, set the tone at the top of the ladder. Kim worked through two tight opening games, both 11–9, before finishing the match in straight sets.

Junior Blake Li delivered a highlight at No. 8, edging out a 13–11 first game before pulling away for the win. The victory marked Li’s first interscholastic win of the season. Sophomore Pierce Armstrong-Shakib, playing up a spot at No. 10, was steady throughout a three-game sweep.

Freshman Nathan Xu showed resilience in a four-game match, bouncing back after dropping the second game to finish strong and earn his first win as a Pelican. The match also marked first victories for freshmen Jeffery Zhang, Anay Sahu, and Nathaniel Kelly.

The sweep was a step forward from last season’s 4–3 loss to the Winged Beavers and reflected the team’s growth over the past year. The Pelicans head to Hotchkiss on Saturday, January 17 for a 3:15 p.m. start time.
