Loomis Sweeps Doubles, Tops Pomfret 6-1

The Loomis Chaffee boys varsity tennis team put together one of its most complete performances of the season on Wednesday, April 29, with a 6–1 win at Pomfret.

The Pelicans improved to 6–4 on the season.

From the start of the match, Loomis played aggressively and effectively, sweeping doubles while dropping just three games combined. The quick start gave the group a 1–0 lead and strong momentum heading into singles.

Singles play was steady and controlled throughout. Sophomore Hayden Meskin and freshman Nathan Xu each handled their matches with confidence at No. 4 and 5, staying consistent from the baseline and capitalizing on opportunities when they came. At No. 6, junior Dylan Torizzo turned in one of the most dominant performances of the afternoon, closing out his match efficiently to help push Loomis closer to the finish line.

At the top of the lineup, junior Andy Yang and junior Ethan Zhou were tested by strong opposition but responded well. Yang set the tone at No. 1 with a composed, all-around performance while Zhou battled through a tight first set at No. 3 before creating separation in the second. Their wins helped round out the 6–1 result.

Loomis will look to build on that performance when the Pelicans return home to face Suffield Academy on Friday, May 1.
