The Loomis Chaffee community is excited to welcome Evan Ostrowski as a new assistant athletic trainer.  

Evan joins Loomis after 10 years as an athletic trainer at Amherst College, where he worked with a wide range of sports, including women’s soccer, men’s basketball, softball, and football. At Loomis, he will support the Athletic Department in the training room, coordinate the campus CPR program, serve as an advisor, and join the Longman duty team. 

Evan earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training and his master’s degree in physical education from Central Connecticut State University. His passion for the field grew out of his love for lacrosse and ice hockey while growing up in Avon, Conn., as well as the care he received from athletic trainers during his own playing days. 

Evan said he was first drawn to athletic training because he was interested in “merging athletics with medicine in an on-field way.” Watching athletic trainers work with athletes, including himself, confirmed his belief that it was the right career path. 

Building relationships with student-athletes has always been a priority for Evan. “Finding a simple connection, whether that’s talking about food, sports, or favorite activities, is what helps build trust,” he explained. He emphasized that taking the time to listen to athletes’ concerns is just as important as providing treatment. 

Evan described his philosophy as being fully present for student-athletes, whether that means motivating them, listening to them, or helping them see the bigger picture. His goal is to help students set achievable targets and walk alongside them as they work toward those goals. 

Outside of athletics, Evan looks forward to advising and connecting with students in new ways. “I’m excited to help in a different capacity and make a positive impact on students I may not otherwise meet,” he said. 

Ultimately, he hopes his work leaves a lasting impression. “I want students to feel like they received the best level of care and also felt seen and heard,” Evan said. “If I can help them create positive memories and experiences here at Loomis while achieving their athletic, academic, or social goals, that’s what matters most.” 

Evan lives in Simsbury with his wife, Bree; their young children; their bulldog; and six ducks. He enjoys hiking and cooking with his family, as well as spending summers at a lake in New Hampshire.
