Pelicans Surge Past Exeter

Loomis Chaffee boys lacrosse shook off a slow start and pulled away for a decisive 17–1 win over Phillips Exeter Academy on Saturday, April 25.

Loomis broke through midway into the first quarter with a three-goal run. Junior midfielder Brendan Mulderig opened the scoring for the Pelicans, followed in quick succession by sophomore O.J. Ika, who finished a feed from classmate Jacob Beskin, and senior Jayden Rodriguez, who tallied the first of his three goals on the day.

An Exeter goal briefly halted the momentum, but it would be the visitors’ last. From that point on, Loomis controlled the game, scoring 14 unanswered goals across the final three quarters.

Rodriguez led the offense with three goals while several Pelicans found the back of the net throughout the afternoon. Junior long-stick midfielder Will Ruberton, freshman attackman Quinton Hoverstock, and freshman defensive midfielder Colton Boorda each contributed, with Boorda scoring twice. Sophomore midfielder John Mulderig added two goals of his own, the first of his Loomis career, and capped the scoring late.

Defensively, senior Saki Nicholas, junior Hayes Griffin, and senior Turner Tarrasch anchored a strong unit that limited Exeter’s opportunities. Senior Ashton McNair was impactful from the long-stick midfield position, and senior Hayden Goozh and junior Julien Watts controlled possession at the faceoff X.

In goal, junior Rhett King, senior Matteo Sanders, and senior Porter Hutchinson combined for eight saves to secure the win.
