Pelicans Use Big Second Inning to Defeat Cushing

Loomis picked up an 8–5 win over Cushing Academy at home on Saturday, April 4, using a big second inning and consistent production at the plate to earn the team’s first win of the season.

The Pelicans broke things open in the bottom of the second inning. Junior Larkyn Domer-Shank got the scoring started with a solo home run to center field. Freshman Selena Madrid followed with a double that brought in a run, and junior Brooke Murphy added a two-run single to cap the inning.

Sophomore pitcher Victoria Budarz limited Cushing to five runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out two and walking eight.

Loomis totaled 13 hits in the game. Senior Megan Hosman and Murphy each recorded three hits, with Murphy driving in a team-high three runs in a 3-for-4 performance. Madrid, junior Adrianna Cicchiello, and Domer-Shank also turned in multi-hit efforts. Defensively, the Pelicans were sharp, turning two double plays.

Loomis returns to action at home on Monday, April 6, at 4:45 p.m. against Miss Porter’s School.
