QUOTATION FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

"Heroism is latent in every human soul. However humble or unknown, they (the veterans) have renounced what are accounted pleasures and cheerfully undertaken all self-denials; privations, toils, dangers, sufferings, sicknesses, mutilations, life-long hurts and losses, death itself — for some great good, dimly seen but dearly held."

— Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, Maine college professor who became a highly decorated Union Army officer and won the Medal of Honor for his gallentry at the battle of Gettysburg.

Week I with Saturday Classes

Athletics Announcements

On Wednesday, May 20, members of the Loomis Chaffee Athletics Department were joined by Head of School Sheila Culbert, spring varsity athletes, and their coaches and parents to celebrate the success of the 2015 interscholastic varsity spring season.

Loomis Chaffee head boys lacrosse coach Bill Lee has been named Coach of the Year by the Western New England Lacrosse Coaches' Association. The award was presented Thursday, May 21, at the annual meeting of the coaches' association.

Sophomores David Miccoli and Jason Liu packed a lethal one-two punch in leading the boys golf team to victory Wednesday over 23 schools in the 42nd annual Kingswood Oxford Invitational Golf tournament, which doubles as the Western New England Championship. The win signified only the second Western New England title in the history of the Loomis boys golf program.

The Loomis Chaffee Athletics Department notes the last week of spring sports by honoring the contributions of our final group of student athletes recognized as Pelicans of the Week.

On Wednesday, May 20, the boys varsity lacrosse game versus Avon Old Farms will be live streamed by host site GKess Films. Watch Loomis play for the Founders League title. You may watch the game live at 2:30 p.m. EST by following this link.

This week's array of Pelican student athletes who have gone above and beyond is perhaps best exemplified in the comments of JV girls basketball coach Scott Purdy, who highlights the selflessness of our boys III basketball team. Thank you to all our Pelicans of the Week for your leadership and play.
