- Writing Workshops
Grade Level: separate sections for rising 7–8 and rising 9–11
Your words create a universe of possibility. For writers who already have a command of the building blocks of good sentences, this second level Writing Workshop course takes those tools out for a drive, exploring the world around us through narrative, description, and interpretation. Widely known for its innovative Writing Workshop, Loomis Chaffee now offers a summer version of the course that gives students the tools and tips to become more creative, convincing, and thought-provoking. Using outstanding literary readings as both examples of good writing and the launching point for students’ work, this course offers step-by-step instructions for writing with rhythm, revision, and rhetorical sophistication.
In week one, students will apply techniques learned to draft a one to two page narrative. In week two, students will identify these techniques in short literary selections and write an analytical paragraph on one of these readings.
